--General
River Passes XL is a large version of the orginal River Passes. A sea of water now exists at the bottom of the map to allow some new water tactics to be used.
--Resources
Using solar for energy is safest. Wind output can be high but varies greatly, from 3 to 24, so you'd be taking your chances.
Metal is spread out evenly and generously around the map. There is plenty of metal to support two players on each side.
--Strategy
Rushing will probably have little effect since there is only one land route to the opponent and therefore easier to defend. Expand your base quickly. The map is small and you want as much of that metal as you can scavenge. Attack continuously to slow your opponent. As you gain land cover the river crossings with defense. If you have metal to spare build an aircraft plant. Your opponent probably will not have defense in the centre of its base, near the mountain. If you are playing a 2v2 the players that start at the lower end of the map have the opportunity to utilise the water. Build some ships, hovercraft or any amphibious units you desire and bombard the enemies from the water.
--Artificial Intelligence
The River Passes AI has been adapted to the new conditions of River Passes XL. The AI will occasionly build a shipyard, but don't think too much of it. If you attack the AI from the bottom it will be virtually defenseless - an easy game. 2v2 doesn't work too well with the AI either. Both enemies go land and end up crowding the base.
--Tools Used
• Annihilator - main map construction
• TAEB - minimap rendering
• Notepad - AI creation, fine tuning OTA settings
• HPI View/Pack - inserting AI
